The Correct Shaving Procedure For Men
Mantalk - Virtual Skincare
Online Therapist: FAQ
Here is the answer to your question:

What is the correct shaving procedure for men?

1. Always shower first, then shave as this allows the steam to soften the hair, or use lots of warm water. A quick splash will not do. Never shave when you are cold.

2. Apply Professional Shave over damp beard area. If heavy bearded – 4/5 drops on wet skin, if light bearded – 2/3 drops on wet skin.

3. Begin at the sideburns with short quick strokes in the direction of hair growth – working down to the jawbone. Then re-work the same area with long slow stokes. Work alternate sides on each step. Rinse blade regularly under hot running water.

4. Shave down the cheek area to the jawbone with the grain using long, even strokes.

5. Next work on the beard area underneath the jawbone with long even strokes down to the neck.

6. Complete the shaving procedure with your moustache and chin area.

7. Rinse any residue of the Professional Shave with tepid water.

8. Spritz face and neck with Multi-Active Toner or Soothing Protection Spray to help soothe any irritation.

9. Apply Active Moist or Barrier Repair together with Solar Defense Booster SPF30 to seal and protect the skin.

Shaving Points you should Consider:

1. Use the Deluxe Facial Brush to help lift ingrown hairs and prepare the skin before shaving.

2. Never rush shaving. It is worth taking a bit time and using the right equipment and products!

3. Allow 20 minutes between waking up and shaving. Fluids accumulate in the skin tissues overnight and if you shave whilst the skin is still puffy, the shave will not be as close and never shave when you are cold.

4. Your razor must always be cleaned thoroughly. An antiseptic should be poured over the blade after use. Antiseptic mouthwash is ideal!

5. Always use a Dermalogica moisturiser before bedtime. This will have a real softening effect the skin and beard overnight.

6. Blades or disposable razors should be changed after 10 shaves.

7. If you suffer from razor bumps, which are ingrown hairs, Skin Prep Scrub should be used for at least 2 minutes in the shower. Use the Deluxe Facial Brush in a lifting motion to raise the hairs away from the skin. Take a look at our recommended skin care routine for men.
